Interment will be in the Shelton Cemetery.O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is serving the family.Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com.Richard Lee Mathieson was born April 14, 1941, in Kearney to Robert R. Jr. and Doris (Wendling) Mathieson. He grew up in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 1959. Following high school, he attended Kearney State College and also served for six years in the Army National Guard.He was united in marriage to Marty Wentek on Oct. 29, 1963, in Smith Center, Kan. They made their home in Hastings where he worked for Bosselmans. They later lived in Shelton, where Richard opened the Standard Station with Larry Bombeck. Richard, a third-generation plumber, joined his father and grandfather at Mathieson Plumbing. He operated the family business until his recent health problems did not allow him to continue. Richard was meticulous with his work and was a very skilled backhoe operator.Richard loved playing cribbage and competed in many tournaments. He was also an avid baseball card and coin collector. He always looked forward to riding around in his 1965 Ford Falcon Sprint and spending time with his beloved dogs, Duke and Elsa. His family and friends will always remember Richard for his sense of humor and his willingness to serve the community.He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marty Mathieson of Shelton; his children and their spouses Brenda and Terry Gay of Havlock, N.C., Andrea Mathieson-Bitterman and Alan Bitterman of Lincoln and Courtney and Ron Follmer of Shelton; his grandchildren, Sydney Crowell and husband, Matthew, Dallas Gay and Aranim Louis; a sister, Cora Sue Eastlund and husband, John, of Omaha; a brother, Kim Mathieson of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Chris Lonowski.#inform-video-player-3...
